What is Village Greens??

Happy 2014 – the year that will see Village Greens open for us to all to enjoy and be a part of.

What is Village Greens?  It is a community owned grocery co-op which will stock fresh, local and organic produce; aiming to trade ethically and honestly with growers, farmers, producers and suppliers.  The shop will be situated in Prestwich, a prime location to serve the North of the city.

When will Village Greens open? We have already raised £65,000 from over 260 members  – an amazing success!! We just need to raise a little more financial capital to ensure the success of the business, and we aim to be open by spring 2014.

Buy a share and become a member – we invite you to be a part of this exciting enterprise and be in from the beginning by applying to buy shares in the Village Greens.  You can invest anything from £100 to £20,000, with all members being equal and democratic regardless of how many shares are owned.  Read our full share offer, business plan and cash flow forecast and then simply fill in your application form and either send us a cheque or pay by bank transfer. Our share offer has been extended to 3rd February 2014.

50% tax relief – our share offer has advanced assurance from HMRC so as a tax payer you may be eligible for 50% tax relief on your share investment – yes 50% tax relief – under SEIS – Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme – set up by the government to support and encourage local projects like Village Greens.  So if you invest £400 in shares you may be eligible for £200 tax relief on your tax return.  How fantastic is this !!  NB as we are not allowed to offer financial advice please do check your own personal eligibility and seek the necessary advice.

Financial or social investment? See your investment in shares in Village Greens as a social dividend rather than a financial return.  You are becoming a member of something new and exciting in your community, a service that bridges a gap in the market and offers an alternative place to shop to the supermarkets, which we are surrounded by.  You need to lock your money in for 3 years minimum, and withdrawal after that is dependent on success of the co-op and will be determined by yourselves, as members, at Annual General Meetings.  So you will have a say in how future profits are distributed, with priority of course always being the long term sustainability of the shop itself first.

Community involvement – the shop is just the start of what Village Greens will represent.   We aim to engage with local schools and groups to widen awareness of food provenance; healthy eating; shopping on a budget; cooking from scratch; seasonal eating and so much more ….. The potential is endless, such as being an active part of the wider network of Feeding Manchester; encouraging support for shopping locally; linking with other wonderful groups such as Incredible Edibles and of course enjoying being part of the ever expanding co-operative movement.
